How Can One Man Have All That Power?

Kanye West. Selling more than 21 million albums and figures exceeding 66 million digital downloads; unquestionably Kanye is one of the bestselling artists of all time. West is undeniably an important and influential figure in pop culture obtaining immense popularity along his way. Born in Atlanta, Georgia and raised in Chicago, West spent his younger years alongside his influential father, an award winning photographer who later became a Church Counsellor. After spending numerous years rapping and working alongside local artists, West later moved to New York in 2001 where he kick-started his music career. Has Kanye made some absolute anthems that can go up on the wall with the likes of POWER, Ni***’s in Paris, No Church in The Wild, Black Skinheads, Stronger and Gold Digger.

After a cagey last few months for Kanye West he has finally released his new album, The Life Of Pablo! Many fans and critics are asking questions about the title, like who is Pablo? Well, Pablo is none other than Pablo Picasso, a different kind of artist to Kanye. Is Kanye comparing himself to said Pablo Picasso? If Ye is then he does share some qualities to the deceased artist. Pablo Picasso was not only known for his art but also his sexual relations, Picasso had a lot of failed meaningless relationships, as did Kanye. Eventually Picasso settled down With a Women name Jacqueline Roque, in this formulation She Kim Kardashian. Kanye sending a secret message Within the title Of his album maybe saying that he’s settling down after a lot Of drama in his life.

The Life Of Pablo, claimed to be a gospel album by Kanye„ The Style of music varies throughout the album and features some of the best names around including; Rihanna, Kid Cud, The Weekend„ Ty dollar Sign, Chance the Rapper, Kendrick Lamar and Sia. Kanye has also put in time to some new names that have been signed to his label G.O.OD magic, these names include the likes Of Desiigner, who has recently hit big time with his latest single ‘Panda’

Within 10 days of its release The Life Of Pablo hit 250 million streams, putting Tidal on the map- Tidal is a music streaming app struggling to compete with likes of Spotify, SoundCloud and Apple Music, with Kanye being the stubborn man that he is and only releasing his album to Tidal, he boosted ratings and users of the app, that is so Kanye. The Life Of Pablo is a very versatile album with Kanye veering from thug rap on the likes of ‘Father Stretch My Hands, Pt.2’ to futuristic beats that turns up on ‘Fade’ and ‘feedback’ to a bipolar poem that insults Kanye and praises him with the likes of ‘l Love Kanye’ and eventually reaching gospel soul that features in ‘Ultra-Light Beam’ and ‘Lowlights’.

Ye has been controversial in his latest album by laying into Taylor Swift, by mentioning how Yeezy made her ‘larnous’. Also Nike didn’t get away with some harsh yet truthful quotes made by Kanye in the song ‘Facts’ one of his cousins with some harsh lyrics about him stealing Kanye’s laptop, also giving Wiz Khalifa a heads up not to get in the way of his business by making a whole track, Siiiiiiiiilver Surfffleeeeer Intermission, to settle a twitter feud.

His music doesn’t stop hitting you with pure beats and great lyrics and it does continue in TLOP, for instance, belittlement of his previous girlfriends and lovers by rapping ‘For all the girls that got dick from Kanye, if you see em in the streets give em Kanye’s best’. Why? ‘They mad they ain’t famous, they mad they’re still nameless’. Its theses sort of lyrics from Famous that have been trademarked by Kanye in nearly every album he’s wrote.

Kanye’s music is often described as a ‘religious experience’ managing to strike a significant level of honesty uniting a polarized society under the love of his music and the ability to recite his inspirational lyrics. The references to ‘religious experience’ isn’t a joke either and guess what, Kanye even has his own religion known as ‘Yeezianity’- a mere extension of Kanye’s insanity. The award winning artist and global sensation has almost achieved everything, lingering the question; what hasn’t he achieved? Well, he hasn’t become president… yet.

Apparently Kanye becoming president is no joke and his partner Kim is pretty certain about his ambition. He has even received some ‘treasured’ advice from current prime minster, Barrack Obama; “do you really think that this country is going to elect a black guy from the South Side of Chicago with a funny name to be President of the United States? That is crazy. That’s cray!” Well either way, Obama fails to hinder his ambitious plan and Kanye will follow through by putting himself in the 2020 election.

It’s safe to say that fans are slightly enthusiastic that Kanye is running for president in 2020. One fan even suggested that Kanye should run for president, oblivious of the fact that he’s already chasing the dream. Guess it’s just Kanye’s destiny aye?

So what does Kanye offer in his endeavour to becoming president? Will he fight terrorism; reform the educational system or perhaps outlaw corruption? Or we will see a self-centred individual replacing the national anthem with ‘gold digger’ and banning the right to smile? Of course it’s only 2015; there is plenty of time for people to warm to the idea of him becoming president and the introduction of some worthwhile policies.

The level of bravery and determination necessary to forefront the pop culture can often resemble egocentric and irrational behaviour. In the words of Kanye however: “One of my biggest achilles heels has been my ego. And if I, Kanye West, can remove my ego, I think there’s hope for everyone.” Any artist who is confident enough to arise to the task of becoming president deserves some recognition, but at the same time runs at the risk of looking delusional and sometimes they are! Well either way Kanye, you’ve gained my vote…
